Running a coaching or consulting business can be very rewarding, but it’s certainly not for the faint of heart! Between networking, continuing education, and client work, there is always something that needs to be done.
That laundry list doesn’t even include marketing, which is necessary to build a thriving coaching and consulting business. That’s where content marketing plays a critical role.
In today’s digital world, where everyone from your closest competitor to your next client is online, you have to develop a content marketing and social media strategy that will showcase your passion and expertise while resonating with your audience and encouraging them to take the next step in their journey with you.

3 Social Media Best Practices for Consultants and Coaches
Luckily for you, cultivating a social media presence that showcases your unique approach to coaching and/or consulting isn’t rocket science. I have the secret sauce you need to find success, boost visibility, and foster genuine connections between you and your audience!
Choose the Right Platform(s)
You don’t have to be on every single social media platform out there! In fact, I tell most of my clients to pick 2-3 to focus on. Once you have found a strategy that works, consider adding an additional platform if it makes sense for your goals.
Going full throttle on every platform when you first start out is a mistake that can lead to burnout. Instead, find out where your ideal audience is hanging out and focus on cultivating an audience there.
Not sure which platforms are worth your time? Study your analytics to see when your audience is online and engaging with your content the most. If an account is just not working, you have my permission to post an “I’m no longer active here; follow me on ____” message and move on!
If your coaching business is geared toward professionals and companies, LinkedIn is probably going to be a better fit than Facebook. If you’re looking for stay-at-home parents of young kids, Instagram or Facebook is going to get more results for you than LinkedIn. And if showing up on video is your jam, lean into YouTube and TikTok!
Post Very Consistently
Consistent content creation will help you build a loyal community on social media. You should develop a content calendar to establish a cohesive, strategic plan. This also makes it easier to execute if you’re working with a team to help you create/schedule content.
You can crosspost similar content across your platforms, of course, but make sure you’re following best practices on each social media site.
Quality Over Quantity – Always!
While you want to be consistent, you never want to post for the sake of posting. It’s more impactful to craft thoughtful, insightful, and educational content than it is to post every single day. When you teach your audience that they can rely on you for quality content, they will be more likely to engage with your posts!
9 Social Media Post Ideas for Consultants and Coaches
My biggest piece of advice for posting on social media is simple…don’t overthink it!
Just focus on generating posts that your audience will love. Here are a few examples of social media posts for consultants and coaches that will inspire you!
Tip #1: Share Expert Tips or Insights
Building yourself up as a thought leader in your industry can go a long way to keep your pipeline of clients running smoothly, and social media is the perfect place to do it!
Sharing valuable, actionable advice will showcase all your knowledge and establish you as an informed professional. Keep your audience entertained by switching between different posting formats, like short-form video, infographics, or listicles.
Tip #2: Post Client Transformations and Testimonials
What better proof is there than your own clients’ success stories? Give them a little shout out while showing your audience what they can accomplish when they work with you, too.
Tip #3: Share Behind-the-Scenes Looks and Personal Stories
Every coach and consultant knows that the work is never really done. We’re all still growing and learning. Giving your audience a peek into your own growth and journey will humanize you and inspire connection.
Tip #4: Interactive Posts
Interactive posts are a fun way to build community and connect with your audience. Consider posting questions, polls, or challenges that encourage interaction and discussion.
Take it a step further by encouraging your followers to share their own experiences or insights related to the topic at hand. You can focus on a topic that has to do with your coaching or consulting business or something totally random and fun. It’s up to you!
Tip #5: Inspirational Posts
Sometimes, all we need is a little dose of inspiration! Don’t be afraid to share a personal story or a quote that resonates with you. You never know when your audience might need to hear it, too.
Tip #6: Share Resources
Social media is the perfect place to share resources, including your latest blog post, a podcast episode, a must-have freebie, or even your latest quiz!
Tip #7: Create a Weekly Theme or Series
Who doesn’t love a Motivational Monday or Throwback Thursday? Develop a weekly theme or series that is unique to your brand and post a graphic, video, or carousel every week.
Not only will this fill up your content calendar but it will also give your audience something to look forward to week after week!
Tip #8: Collaboration Posts
Collaborations make excellent posts for a number of reasons. They allow you to reach your own audience, but also the other person’s audience, and visa versa!
Whether you’re interviewing someone on your coaching podcast, guest blogging on someone else’s, or participating in some other form of collaboration, don’t be afraid to post about it on your social media!
Tip #9: Highlight Industry Trends or News
Is something going on in your industry? Let your followers know!
If you are a business consultant in the IT industry and a new court ruling on AI comes out, go ahead and share it. Are you a life and relationship coach? Share a recent medical study regarding relationships.
Not only will this educate your audience but it could also trigger conversations and connections within your community.
