Guest Blog by Amanda Russell, Content Writer and Strategist, Owner of Chaos Coordination
As a business owner, I know that I need to use social media to promote my brand and connect with clients and customers. But it’s always been something I’ve struggled with (despite being really good at it for other people!)
Instagram is not my jam. I’m just not a big picture person. TikTok? Forget it. I hate the thought of recording myself talking in my hard East Coast accent.
Plus, as a mom of three young and active kids, it’s always messy here. I don’t know how to make my life look put together and finding the time to record short-form video content without someone popping in feels impossible.
So, I’m sure you can understand why I jumped at the chance to sign up for the newest member of the Metaverse, Threads. It’s been a few months now and it’s already grown to become my favorite platform.
What’s So Special About Threads?
As a professional yapper, Threads is my comfort zone. I use it for business, but I also use it to connect with people, especially other working moms. I’ve met tons of people from all over the world there, including an Irish immigrant living in California who started her own clothing line, an American now living in London who runs her own jewelry line, and a Florida-based podcaster and fellow working mom.
Basically, it’s just a massive online playground where everyone is just hanging out, sharing stories, ideas and random thoughts. Think of it like passing notes in class. It’s a real, raw form of connection in a world that is often curated to perfection.
How Do You Get Started on Threads?
You just … start talking! It’s really that easy. The algorithm is still fun right now and there are no ads yet (although, they are coming…), which means that almost anyone can get attention on the platform.
Start simple. Introduce yourself, your brand, and say who you want to connect with. It will encourage connection, while also training the algorithm on what you want to see in your feed.
Connect With Other Brands and Businesses
Even though Threads is sort of like a giant public diary, it’s still a great place to connect with other creators and businesses. I’ve found some really great brands through the app!
I’m not the only one. According to Meta, three in four Threads users are following at least one business on the platform.
When you start to share posts about your interests or your brand’s solutions, the platform will start showing you other accounts you might be interested in. It also starts to show your Threads to people who might be interested in what you have to say. Engaging with other people’s posts is another great way to help curate your feed.
Don’t Take it Too Seriously
My favorite part about Threads is that it’s simply just not as curated as other social media platforms. You should still be mindful of what you say and post, especially if you’re doing it from a business account, but it’s much more laid back and free than other platforms like LinkedIn or Facebook.
My biggest tip: You never want to get on Threads to share a super polished account of your business. When I do that, my engagement almost always suffers and my posts don’t get much traction.
However, when I’m authentic, honest, and engaged, I get a much higher ROI on Threads than any other platform! That’s probably because, in general, people are tired of super buttoned-up brands. They want to see the real people behind them – and Threads is the perfect place to show that off!
If you’ve been thinking about jumping into the world of Threads, I highly recommend it! It puts the social back in social media and I can see it become a huge part of content marketing strategies in the very near future!
If you’re interested in keeping up with the ever-changing world of social media and content marketing, I invite you to sign up for my email newsletter. Once a month, I share posts just like this one served with a little side of sarcasm and a whole lot of light-hearted humor.
